For all patients:

  • We recommend you eat something before your appointment. You may experience lightheadedness if you receive treatment on an empty stomach.

  • Remember to wear your mask or face covering.

  • Call us when you arrive for your appointment so we can greet you at the door (and so the doorbell does not excite the dogs!).

  • Please reschedule if you are feeling ill or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms on the day of your appointment.

Initial Appointments:

  • First acupuncture appointments take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, EXCEPT Cosmetic Acupuncture appointments which are 1 1/2 hours. First herbal appointments take from 15-30 minutes.

  • We will take your complete health history. This will be similar to an intake you might do with a Western medical professional, but will also include:

    • A look at your tongue and reading your pulse.

    • An interview process, that will ask about body functions & lifestyle, that is central to TCM diagnosis (i.e. bowel and bladder function, sleep patterns, diet, activity levels, emotional wellbeing, etc.)

    • Discussion of your health and healing concerns and goals.

  • We will formulate a treatment plan, that includes modalities that will be right for you, recommended frequency for treatments, and a projected timeframe for treatment. Though you may experience some improvement after your first appointment, multiple treatments are necessary for lasting results.

  • You’ll have a slightly shorter than usual treatment on the table, using the modalities that best address your needs.

Subsequent Appointments:

  • Appointments are 1 hour long, unless otherwise indicated. Cosmetic Acupuncture appointments are 1 1/2 hours.

  • Each appointment will start with a check-in and update on your progress. We’ll discuss treatment for the day, and the remainder of your appointment will be in treatment on the table.

Aftercare for all treatments:

  • Rest if you are able. Avoid strenuous activity immediately after your appointment.

  • Stay hydrated - drink water or caffeine-free herbal teas.

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol after your appointment.

  • Be kind to yourself - your emotions may feel closer to the surface post-treatment.

  • For Cosmetic Acupuncture - expect some redness and sensitivity post-treatment. We will customize a specific after care protocol for you during your appointment.

  • Some symptoms may intensify before they lessen post-treatment. If you have concerns or questions about what you are experiencing, give us a call.
